Lamb Weston / Meijer has implemented SAP Integrated Business Planning software. The international producer of potato products will initially use this SAP HANA cloud-based solution to optimize the budget and forecasting process at the sales end.

Lamb Weston optimizes supply chain with SAP

Lamb Weston / Meijer delivers frozen products to catering wholesalers and retail. The company, located in Kruiningen, Zeeland, has a total of five factories, three of which in the Netherlands. Lamb Weston / Meijer makes monthly sales forecasts based on customer demands, so they can match purchase, sales and available production capacity to each other optimally. Supply chain planning is important in a company such as Lamb Weston / Meyer, as it operates in a growth market and production capacity is not unlimited.

User friendly webinterface

In the past, the Lamb Weston account managers provided the data for the budget in speadsheets, which then were entered in a central system manually. The switch to SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) simplifies this process. They can enter the proposed budget directly into the system, increasing the efficienty of the process and reliability of the data. This also creates time to analyze the data based on the budget numbers, rather than tying up staff with administrative duties. Employees can used their trusted Excel front-end or the user friendly web-interface, which can also be used on mobile devices.

The margin

In addition to a greater efficiency, Lamb Weston / Meijer can use IBP to improve their margin. Since IBP also provides insights on margin levels, the capacity can be measures not only on the total sales volume, but optimize the maximum profitability.

Supply chain improvements

In the future, Lamb Weston / Meijer hopes to provide their customers access to the system. This allows them to enter their forcasting directly into the system, allowing the company to save time and increase efficiently along the full supply chain. Account managers will also have their forcasting information at an earlier stage, thus adding to the efficiency.

This is an important step for Lam Weston / Meijer that is in line with our long term ambition and strategy. It is a real-time planning solution for analyzing future supply and demand. The solution supports the full process from demand to supply, including analysis and contributing to ‘what if?’scenario’s. With the right foundation and involvement from the various disciplines within Lamb Weston / Meyer, we will be able to identify future opportunities in our market and for ourselves earlier.
