De Volvo Group viert het 50-jarig jubileum van zijn vrachtwagenfabriek in Gent en zet tegelijkertijd de volgende stap in duurzame transformatie: de bouw van een emissievrij mobiliteitscentrum op en rond het terrein.

Anniversary with distinguished visitors

The 50th anniversary was celebrated in style at the site in Ghent, with special activities for employees, partners, students, customers and official visitors, including King Philippe. The programme focused on craftsmanship, innovation and the sustainable future of mobility.

Zero-emission mobility hub

The celebration of this milestone coincides with the next step in sustainable transformation: the construction of a zero-emission mobility hub. The hub will be accessible from public roads and will combine fast charging for e-trucks with, in a later phase, hydrogen refuelling. This will create a future-proof facility for transport and logistics in the region. The first four charging stations will be operational by the end of 2025, with hydrogen supply to follow. The hub is being developed in collaboration with Milence (charging infrastructure) and Air Products Benelux (hydrogen).

Volvo Group Ghent builds on a strong foundation of sustainability. They have been operating CO₂-neutrally for 18 years, supported by a solar park and wind turbines. These investments structurally reduce emissions and provide a growing share of renewable energy, laying the foundation for the transition to emission-free mobility.

Collaboration within Smart Delta Resources

As partners in Smart Delta Resources, Volvo Group and Air Products are contributing to accelerating electrification and hydrogen in the Flemish-Dutch Scheldt Delta. The publicly accessible mobility hub increases the reliability of the energy infrastructure for heavy road transport and helps transporters and shippers to switch to zero-emission logistics more quickly.

Smart Delta Resources warmly congratulates Volvo Group Ghent on 50 years of craftsmanship and innovation. We look forward to the further roll-out of the mobility hub and the joint steps towards a competitive, climate-neutral and circular industry in our region.
