The province of Zeeland is a supporting partner within SDR, which actively focuses on the economic development, growth and innovation of Zeeland. The water around the province offers many opportunities for tidal energy and wind energy: this makes new technologies for extracting energy from water or wind a good export product. The strategic location in the sea, between Rotterdam and Antwerp, is utilized with a focus on the sectors in which Zeeland is strong: the process industry with a biobased economy, ports and logistics, recreation and tourism, energy, agriculture and agri-food, fisheries and aquaculture.

Zeeland also has a large number of large industrial companies. With targeted policy, the province can make an important contribution to the national goal (Paris climate agreement): 95% CO2 reduction by 2050. In all initiatives in the field of energy, the Province works closely with the Zeeland companies, social organizations and other authorities.
